7 Simple and Easy Hair Care Tips
Practical for both men and women

Exactly what the title says (practical for both men and women):

1. Avoid products that make your hair excessively dry or oily. Stay away from gels, waxes, etc. Ask your professional hair stylist about hair dyes and treatments that do not contain damaging chemicals. Use shampoos and conditioners that suit your hair type.

2. Let your hair dry naturally or blow dry using low heat. Do not dry your hair completely as this will result in brittle, fragile tresses. Letting your hair dry naturally with the help of gentle towel blotting (do not rub too aggressively) saves your hair from breakage and splitting. Remember, hairs are 3x more sensitive when they are wet.

3. Comb or brush your hair with a downward stroke. Avoid brushing hair when it is wet as this might lead to hair breakage. Comb out tangled hair first, but do not force it to detangle. You can also use your fingers to smooth it out. Do not use plastic hair combs and brushes and avoid those with sharp edges. These produce static electricity and can damage both the hair and the scalp.

4. Let your hair breathe. Of course hairs cannot literally “breathe”, but they are sensitive to constricting hairstyles. Do not pull your hair back into a bun, braid or ponytail too tightly.

5. Nourish your hair by nourishing yourself. This is not just a gimmick to promote healthy living; it is actually quite effective. Do not overindulge in foods that contain excessive amounts of glucose, artificial flavouring, fat, oil and sodium. Instead, take vitamins, eat well, exercise, and get enough rest.

6. Your diet should contain basic nutrients like vitamins B, C and E (these are the most effective for hair growth). Also look for foods that contain folic Acid (vitamin B9), Biotin (vitamin B7), panthotenic acid (vitamin B5) or methylsulfonylmethane (MSM).

7. Avoid too much exposure from the sun! Our hair is just as prone to sunburn as our skin.
